Walnut Credenza
Commissioned as a feature piece for the main living space of a Seattle residence, this custom walnut credenza was designed to provide generous enclosed storage while establishing a strong, grounded presence in the room.
The six-foot cabinet is constructed from 1½-inch-thick solid walnut and elevated on an open, stretchered base. Exposed lapped joinery gives the base its structure and rhythm, expressing how the piece is assembled while reinforcing its visual weight. Four solid wood doors create a quiet, symmetrical façade, with carefully arranged boards allowing the natural variation and figure of the walnut to become part of the composition. Recessed finger pulls detailed in copper introduce a warm contrast and subtle focal point.
Finished with hard-wax oil and fitted with soft-close hardware, the credenza combines refined craftsmanship with the demands of everyday use. Its robust construction, expressive grain, and carefully resolved details create a piece that is both practical and commanding.
